Safety Switches Save Lives!

Safety Switch, Circuit Breaker or RCD | What’s the difference?

It’s important to understand the difference between these three common items found in your home or business switchboard.

Safety Switches continually monitor the flow of electricity and can detect a problem or fault that may pose a risk to personal safety. They will turn the power off within 30 milliseconds (0.03 of a second!) to try and prevent serious electric shocks.

Circuit breakers only provide short circuit protection (when things go bang), and over current protection (when circuits draw too much power).

RCDs combine the functions of the Safety Switch and the Circuit Breaker into a single unit thus saving space in your switchboard.

If you have any question in relation to electrical safety around your home or business, or safety switches, surge diverters and circuit breakers please contact us to arrange a safety inspection.
